AI is a sub-field of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent machines. The term “artificial intelligence” is used for any computing system that can think for itself and make smart decisions. It can derive insights from data, find things in data that humans cannot.
What is Artificial Intelligence ?
If we talk about the definitions of AI we have to understand that it has not any particular definitions. AI is something that has not been discovered yet. The characteristics includes Machine Learning, Data Science, deep learning. It is very useful in predictive analytics. Depending on the data acquired in the past, predictive analytics allows for an educated guess of the future.
History
Artificial intelligence has a varied history. Thought-capable artificial beings have been common in fiction, as in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or Karel Capek's R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots).
However, it wasn’t until the mid-20th century when the scientists, such as Alan Turing laid the groundwork for modern AI.
The history of AI saw many periods of hopefulness as well as a period of reduced interest and funding. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, both the US and UK saw great enthusiasm in the AI space.
The Artificial intelligence came after machine intelligence slowly began to gain popularity in the early 1980s. The market seemed to be building, but it quickly lapsed back in 1987 after a Lisp Machine, a company making AI machines, collapsed.
By the rise of the new century, it was making its way up again, driven by advancements in computing. AI was adopted in fields, such as data mining, logistics, data organization, and more in 90s.
Soon after, Artificial intelligence began beating humans at their own games. In 1997, IBM’s Deep Blue supercomputer beat chess champion, Garry Kasparov.
Today, most AI algorithms are reaching the state of human equality, which means that they can carry out a task with human-like intelligence. They are also present in everyday interactions on the Internet.
Advantages
At some point AI algorithms are very efficient and as just accurate as humans. they can conduct low-level tasks, such as data entry or customer service, with great efficiency at a lower cost. In addition to offering better efficiency, well-trained AI algorithms also do not make mistakes.
Technologies like smart automation make possible to augment the effectiveness of human intelligence with AI.
One example of this is Google; the easy availability and reliability of the artificial intelligence allow humans to get the right answer to a question almost all of the time.
Applications - Examples of artificial intelligence
Modern AI applications are too numerous to describe here. Frequently, when a technique reaches mainstream use, it is no longer considered artificial intelligence, and is described as the AI effect.
- AI is often used in Health care for classification of high risks or low risk patients and give dosages accordingly. AI assists doctors when multiple curing methods are available but most effective one is under confusion. Microsoft is working on a project to develop a machine called "Hanover” whose goal is to memorize all the papers necessary to cancer and help predict which combinations of drugs will be most effective for each patient.
- It is very much used in self-controlled devices now. AI has contributed to the growth of the automotive industry through the creation and evolution of self-driving vehicles. As of 2016, there are over 30 companies utilizing AI into the creation of self-driving cars. A few companies involved with it include Tesla, Google, and Apple.
- Artificial intelligence and Natural Language Processing has begun to be used by security companies - for example SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solutions. The more advanced of these solutions use AI and NLP to automatically sort the data in networks into high risk and low risk information.
- AI is very much used by government purposes nowadays. The tech city of Bangalore in India is set to deploy AI managed traffic signal systems across the 387 traffic signals in the city. This system will use cameras to ascertain traffic density and accordingly calculate the time needed to clear the traffic volume which will determine the signal duration for vehicular traffic across streets.
- It is very much used in amusements. Video-games AI is used to generate dynamic purposeful behavior.

Future of artificial intelligence
When asked about the future of AI, Lars Selsas, CEO and Co-Founder, Boost.ai, says, ”The future of AI is exciting. We can expect to see conversational AI move away from its current informational phase and become more transactional. That means virtual agents that can complete complex tasks on behalf of customers that would regularly require human assistance. This will be a game-changer for large financial institutions like banks and insurance companies. Offering customers an unprecedented level of self-service through AI that is not only fast but also reliable will usher in a new era of customer service.”
Many countries are using AI for automating many things. Many companies like Google, Facebook, Apple use AI ecosystem. AI is at the core of how most of their products function, with hardware being an important part of the next Industrial Revolution.
